The Delaware Cowboys Vintage Base Ball Club was formed by the Delaware Cows Summer Collegiate Baseball Club in 2005 to provide area youth an opportunity to learn more about the roots of baseball and to provide the community with another avenue of baseball entertainment.
Base Ball in Delaware (Ohio) dates back to the mid-nineteenth century when a local team, the Lenape, was formed in 1866. A great portion of the baseball history of Delaware can be attributed to Ohio Wesleyan University, which fielded its first team in 1889. Among the early participants was a young Branch Rickey who would go on to become a pioneer in many areas of professional baseball.
